DEFENCES OF DAMASCUS. FRENCH PRECAUTIONS. TO STAVE OFF ATTACKS. BY CABLE —PBESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT Received Dec. 21, 12.10 p.m. LONDON, Doc. 20. The French apparently still fear further attacks on Damascus. It is stated that the French propose to surround the city with a series of blockhouses, connected with barbed wire, by means of which it is hoped to prevent raids from without, and to make it impossible for rebels to take refuge in the city and emerge from it later at their sweet will, as previously. The scheme is already being put into operation.—Sydney Sun Cables.
