BANNER AND OTHER MATCHES. INTERESTING PLAY. Banner matches were played in the North, New Plymouth just managing to win from Waitara, scoring 164 points to 157; Fitzroy beat Paritutu in runaway fashion by 226, points to 110, and West End scored a win over Yogeltown by 173 points to 160. A friendly match was played by Avon at Inglewood, the visitors winning a very close match by a margin of two points, scoring 76 to 74. Inglewood won in two rinks, and Avon just retrieved that deficit in their third. New Plymouth, in a friendly match with Fitzroy, scored a win by 186 points to 168. Eire Brigade, playing at New Plymouth, beat the latter handsomely by 80 to 47. MANAIA v. PATEA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Manaia journeyed to Patea on Saturday, and after an interesting game, the visitors were victorious by a margin of 32 points. Mr. A. Christensen welcomed Manaia and Mr! J. E. Ward responded. Detailed scores were as follows, Manaia being mentioned first:— Davis, Sutton, Poynter, J. Christie 25 v. Dwyer, Edwards, Williams, Elliott 20; Meuli, Badley, Johnson, McDonald 29 v. Finlay. Crawford, Bourke, Williams 15; Innes, Toroa, Howard, Andrews 26 v. Glennie, Mercer, McKenna, Paterson 17; Smith/ Ward, Hotter, H. Christie 24 v. Christensen, T. Sheenan, C. Sheenan, McKenna 20. Grand totals: Manaia 104, Patea 72. PARK v. HAWERA B. Playing at Hawera on Saturday, Park scored their first win in the banner competition, when it beat Hawera B uy a margin of three points. The issue was in doubt until the last head was played, and it was that last score which gave Park its win. The scores were as below, Hawera being first in each case:—Winks, Tidswell, ‘M. Squire, R. The position of the clubs is that Manaia are in the lead with cine win hotter than Hawera A. The list is as below:
Tlie position is interesting because Hawera, A have still to play Park, Hawera. B and Manaia, while Manaia have- only one to play. It is full of possibilities. At, Stratford on Saturday there was a meeting of the Taranaki. executive, of which Mr S. Adamson, of Hawera, is. a member. The team of eight rinks to play the. Englishmen was selected. It will not. be, available until the rinks arc arranged. It is, however, understood that five from Hawera are selected and one from Park. BRITISH TEAM AT AUCKLAND. (hy tkt.kohAre —moss association.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 21. The British howlers arrived from Sydney by the- Aorangi last night and were accorded a civic reception at thy Town Hall at noon to-day. They play their first game at Devonport this afternoon against a number of the Auckland clubs.
