(From O'ur Own Correspondent.) TOWN BOARD. \t the monthly meeting of the Norma nbv Town Board there were present: Crs C. J. Preston (chairman), 1. Lloyd, P. Leydon, A. Hills and C. Ball, engineer for Public Works, advised the board that the subsidy from the Main Highways Board on maintenance work would be on the ifor £ basis for the current year. Messrs A. Crocker and C. Coxhead wrote asking the board to improve a portion of Ngaronga road, where the surface water was scouring out holes.— It was left in the hands of the Works Committee to act. . The chairman moved a vote of condolence to the relatives of the late Mrs Leydon. —This was carried m silence. The chairman reported haying secured a supplv of bitumen, and also having ordered 100 yards of crushed m Messrs Howe and Howe-Giles applied for a billiard saloon license. —Ihe application was granted. . The clerk of the Eltham Counhy Council wrote pointing out that the Normanby Tow.n Board had issued motor drivers’ licenses to two persons who should have procured their licenses from the Eltham County Council, as thev are residents of that district, and he * suggested that the licenses be cancelled and that the drivers be ienuested to obtain fresh licenses frcpm the Eltham County.—The clerk was instructed to reply that the board sa-w no reaSin why Pit should take any acfor th. ensmng w»s Ue! as follows Rattle dog 2s 6d each, all other dogs 10s each. CEMETERY BOARD. At the monthly meeting of this board al' members were present _ A letter was received from Mr John y inlay, local supervisor for the Department of Internal Affairs, in connection with old soldiers’ graves and historical p'aces. He. reported that, m eompanv with Air Scott, th© inspector, he had Visited the AVailii cemetery and inspected the momuneua there and also the one in Victoria Park. Th© inspector was verv gratified with the manner in which these places had been looked after, and lie took several photographs of the monuments and surroundings. Standing on the earthwork of Matariki redoubt, be admired the beautiful setting and location of tjie cemetery. The civilian section cam e in for bis approbation, but the military portion came up to his ideal of how such places should be kept, and he considered the Normanbv people had been very patriotic in looking after the monuments so well.
As the upkeep of the monuments is si big draw on the board’s resources, the clerk was instructed to write asking for an increased subsidy for their maintenance, sis the present subsidy of £o ner year is inadequate. NORM AN BY SCHOOL.
On Friday night a concert will be rendered by Air Laidlaw’s concert company from Hawefa, and the whole of the proceeds are to be 'given towards the school prize fund. The annual distribution of prizes will take place during the evening, and a full house is confidently expected by the committee, which has all arrangements well in hand.
