ACTIVITIES CON TIN u ED. PARTY OUT TO-DAY. \ further effort- is being h'.ade ioday to locate the missing man Hugh Hansen, in the southern area m the Mountain Reserve. . r< m -,a+ n bles A party -comprising Oonstabes O’Dcnoghue (Kaponga) and (Manaia), and Mr H. Espiuer -Rov.in went into the bush from the head ot the Rowan Road this morning, yith the intention of proceeding to Has me s Hid, a prominent feature reaching a altitude of approximately 30UO i*ec, and situated 3A miles a few '-.egie*s west of due north of the Rowan Roa The party intends making iui thei investigations in the area surrcundingthis point, going a-s far as the head of the Kaupokouui Gorge and lCtuyning in a south-westerly direction, hollowing this course they will cme<.go from the bush in the vicinity C the foot of the Dawson Falls track. In taking the course indicated, the party is to a certain extent guided by the information disclosed last week by Mr F. Pullen, living at the top of the Manaia Road, who reported hay/ug heard shots coming from the direction of a point about midway between Hastie’s Hill and Lake Div e on the afternoon of the day when it was supposed that Hansen went into the leserve. Lake Dive is situated ao the 3000 feet leve l , about two miles west of Hastie’s Hill. Attempts made last week to discover the origin of these shots were unsuccessful, and it : s st : !l thought that they may possibly have been fired by- Hansen. Though so fa-r no definite .evidence of Hansen having actually penetrated the bush has been afforded, the po'ice arc determined to use every possible endeavour to. discover traces of him. Without definite signs to guide them, however, the searchers are confronted with an extremely difficult task in endeavouring to locate the man in . such a wide expanse of densely-covered bush country, and even with the services of one so well acquainted with th e area as Mr Fispiner wi'l need' to be exceedingly fortunate to have their -°fforts crowned with success.
