BANDS’ CARNIVAL.
TOTAL REALISED £B5l. NEW INSTRUMENTS FUND. That the total amount of £B5l was realised by the recent queen carnival held on behalf of the two local bands was announced by the chairman of the Hawera Municipal Band executive (Mr E. Dixon) at the annual meeting of the members of the Municipal Band, held last evening. He stated that the Scottish Society would receive £283 13s 4d, and the Hawera Munieinal Band £567 6s Bd. In connection with the fact that the band executive had ordered new instruments costing £Boo,' Mr Dixon said that as the band funds at present showed a credit of £144 12s lid, the total credit would reach slightly over £7OO, leaving approximately £IOO to raise before the delivery of the instruments. It was hoped that this amount would be raised through the medium of Christmas carolling and a concert which was to he held shortly. It was also expected that the Borough Council would pay its usual subsidy of £IOO, and after the payment of the conductor’s salary there would bo a margin towards the instrument fund.
