ANXIOUS DAYS
SLUMP OF THE FRANC. ANOTHER CRISIS IMMINENT. SAL VAT ION IN UNITY. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT LONDON, Dec. 13. Messages from Parks state that France ks again nearing a political crisis, which threatens to sweep aside the present party factions in a vast general upheaval. '['lie slump in the franc sent a shiver of anxiety throughout the country. The Press is appealing to the President, and to Parliament to stop the rot. Such a. variety of papers as Le Matin, Eicho de Paris, Figaro and Le Temps are all opposed to the Left. The parties have dropped their usual party bitterness and are fervently appealing for the formation of a Cabinet, resembling M. Clemenceau’s of the war time to inspire the nation with confidence. The Paris correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says:—“Five years of illusion and failure to face financial facts have produced a 'situation wdiich only a Government with the country’s complete confidence can tackle. but this is precisely what i.s lacking. There is no lack of confidence in the present Premier (At. Briand). hut there is a feeling that the power is really in the hands of the Left Party caucuses.
