State and shield record with the discus of 117 ft 7 Jim TEN-MILE WALK. WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. Seventeen competitors faced the starter in a road walk from Hutt to Wellington:, a distance of approximately ten miles. The race resulted: Dalzell (Dannevirke), lhr 38min 55sec, 1; D. C. Pederson, lhr 38min 56sec, 2; F. Silver, lhr 49min 33see, 3. Won by three yards. The fastest time was gained by C. G. Mclntosh, lhr 24min 49sec.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS SPORTS'. A meeting of the committee which has undertaken to carry out the South Taranaki Primary Schools Sports, to be held on the show grounds, Hawera, on Wednesday, was held on Friday evening last. The following officials were appointed for the day, with power to add: Marshal in charge of sports, Mr A. Hansen ; marshal in charge of procession, Mr F. Pettett; running judges, Messrs J. Gray, J. Winks, S. Adamson; jumping judges, Messrs F. Quin, C. Dahl, R. Mortlock, A. Murdoch,- Badley, Corkill, T. Tait, Hall; starter, Mr M. Jones; marksmen, Messrs H. Sutton, C. Burke, W. Bradford, Tutawa, C. Paterson, J. Paterson; track steward, Mr F. Pettett; timekeepers. Messrs Foden, Sargent and Hostick; megaplionist, Air L. Hunt; number steward, Mr D. Strac-han; gate steward, Air J. C. Woolliams; judiciary committee, Messrs Purser, Hansen, Gray and Quin. ‘ The Taranaki Education Board notified the committee that a whole holiday had been granted to all schools whose scholars were taking part in the competitions. The Egmont A. and P. Association wrote allowing the sports to he held on its grounds. The matter of arranging for a hand to head the nrocession to the grounds was left in the hands of Messrs Bennett and Campbell. It was decided to supply to the general public, without charge, an official programme of events and competitors. A sum of money was set aside to provide for games and scrambles for the smaller children, which the ladies will be asked to take charge of. The secretary reported that members of the Rotary ",Cluh had the. matter of arranging for a supply of liquid refreshments for the children well in hand. It was remarked that all arrangements were well forward, and that a fine day and a good attendance of the public were all that were required to ensure complete success.
