SCHOOL FARM WORK.

CALF-REARING COMPETITIONS. A HARD DAY FOR JUDGES. On Wednesday there were but, two schools visited, Okaiawa and Manaia, but at both the entries were numerous, and proved of such even and outstanding quality that the judges had the biggest problem yet presented to them in deciding the winners. At Okaiawa there were in all fifteen calves forwarded, and at Manaia sixteen. The judges were: Messrs J. F. Stevenson (condition), F. Hoskin (dairy type), R. Svme and Dill Macky (charts) and Mr A. J. Glasson was also present. Both schools had made an effort to further the interests' of the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs, and produce a fine array of well-grown and well-done dairy type of calves. The school grounds at each place presented a very busy appearance, for not only were all the scholars present, but there were quite a number of parents and others interested. The whole proceedings were enthusiastic and full of interest for all. The remarks of the judges on their reasons for placing the calves as they did wer e followed with interest by the children, and it is certain that much useful information was gained. AT OKAIAWA. At this place there were 15 calves and a two-year-old yarded. The judges were very pleased with the quality generally, and complimented the pupils on their work in preparing and presenting the animals. Awards wer e as follows:

Dairy type.—N. Walker 1, M. Murray 2, J. Shearer 3.

AT MANAIA. . Another very busy scene was presented at Manaia School Grounds, where there were paraded a fine array of calves, a 1! Jerseys. Another problem was presented to the judges, and in the judging on dairy type Mr Hoskin confessed he was unable to separate two for second place, so good were both. The winners ran one another very close. The awards are given below :

Mr Hoskin said that the calves were a distinct credit to. the children, and he could congratulate the winners on their success, and urged them to persevere in the good work. GROUP JUDGING. The group judging was begun today at Manaia, Kapuni, Oeo and Hawera, and will be concluded on Tuesday next at Eltham. THE CHAMPIONSHIPS. These will be decided at Eltham on Tuesday, December 15, at 12 noon, in the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Oo.’s saleyaids. . This is expected to draw a large crowd of interested spectators.
