NOTES AND COMMENTS (By Maecenas.) The- annual meeting of the Waipa Racing Club takes place on Saturday next. Although Some Fashion Avon easily last w’eek at the Taumarunui meeting, she Avili meet a better class at Waipa. Possibly Chirrup, Avhich Avas only beaten at Takapuna, will IniA’e most admirers. Archeen Avas much fancied by her trainer tor her engagement at the Waikato Racing Club’s recent meeting, but Avas left fully fifteen lengths when the barrier rose, and even then ran fifth in the race. On this slioaving Archeen should run Avell in the Kihikihi Handicap at the Waipa meeting.

Transformer is well just now, and if a runner for the Paterangi Welter at Waipa on Saturday should not lack •support. Although unsuccessful at the late Waikato meeting, Constellation ran good races, and with anything like a good run in the big field engaged in the Orakau Hack Handicap at the Waipa meeting, Constellation should jnake up for recent disappointments. Cawnpore showed up well each day of the recent Takapuna meeting, but failed to pay a dividend. In less “classy’’ company at the Waipa meeting Cawnpore may earn something towards his upkeep. In his last half-dozen starts Master o’Police has done particularly well, so with 8.4 at Waipa this gelding is not badly treated in the Flying Handicap. King Smock decisively defeated Ping Potoa. at the recent Waikato meeting, and taking into account the good performances registered at Takapuna just afterwards by Pin<j Potoa, it certainly points to King Smock running well in the Ohaupo Handicap at Waipa. Tressida, which cost Mr. McLeod only 95 guineas, won some good races for the Hawke’s Bay sportsman before being retired to the matron’s paddock. Her son Punnymede won 5000 guineas in stake money, and on top of this Mr, McLeod got a fancy price for the gelding. It will thus be seen that Tressida was a lucky purchase for Mr. McLeod. The Australian-bred Nippy, which showed particularly good form at the Takapuna meeting recently, is engaged and is eligible to run in the Waipa Plate. As the event is run under weight-for-age conditions it appears to be at the mercy of Nippy. Although the Te Awaimitu Cup field will not be a large one, it should produce a capital contest, as the lot engaged appears to he of an even class. Spoony no doubt will have a big following, but on her home course Desert Glow is certain to prove hard to beat.
