POWER-HOUSE EXPLOSION.
CLAUSE O'F THE ACCIDENT. HEAVY LOSS TO MINES. BY CABLE—PSES3 ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Dec. 10, 1.20 p.m. CAPETOWN. Dec. 9. It has been ascertained that the. power station disaster was due to the breaking of the shaft of a large tur-bine-driven generator. The frame of the machine burst and the broken parts were scattered in all directions. Some were found in the town of Vereeniging, more than a quarter of a. mile away. An astonishing feature was that no one was injured. The mine tonnage affected by the .stoppage is over twenty thousand daily, representing a loss of £30,000 per day. A resumption of the work is expected at the end of the week.
