BANDS’ CARNIVAL.

CROWNING OF QUEEN

, Favoured by glorious weather this afternoon, a large crowd of townspeople and visitors from the country were present at the function in the Park, when the queen of the bands’ carnival ( was duly crowned by the Mayoress (Mrs Fi. A. Pacey). The proceedings were marked by great enthusiasm, and a number of proclamations and loyal addresses were read and presentations made in honour of the occasion..

At two o’clock a grand procession was formed, which included the Hawera Hand, the School Flute Band, the Pipe Band, girls and boys from the schools, the Mayor and Mayoress and Air and Mrs E. Dixon (Air Pacer’s car), the queen and maids of honour (Mrs Robb’s car), pages, train-bearers and herald (Mr Boase’s car), Scots, Sports and Country car, all gaily dressed in the various colours.

Going in procession to the dais on the lawn, the. queen was duly crowned by Airs Pacey, who made a coronation speech. The herald (Alaster E. Velvin) read a proclamation to the people, and replies were made on behalf of the queen by All* Simpson, Scottish chieftain.

The fete and garden party were then duly opened by his AVorship the Alayof. The fete will be continued this evening.
