BOXING.

CONTESTS AT DUNEDIN. (by TELEGRAPH rRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, Dec. 7. After a somewhat colourless contest, Lae hie MacDonald, middleweight champion of New Zealand, defeated Dick Elmour in the Exhibition Festival Hall to-night in a 15-rounds contest for a purse of £l5O. There was some hard hitting, especia'lv by MacDonald, but both used poor judgment, and tub efforts were wasted in wild and ineffective .swings. MacDonald forced the fighting right through, and connected far more frequently than his opponent. Elniour has aii effective uppercut, and his left swing connected well occasionally, but he lacked MacDonald’s hitting power. For a. preliminary contest Tommy Griffiths (8.8), Dunedin, beat Mark Carroll (9.0), Wanganui,* in a tenround contest for a purse of £SO. Griffiths was far the c'everest- boxer and was too fast for Carroll.
