ENTERTAINMENT AT AUROA.

CROQUET SOCIAL. KAPONGA CLUB’S DANCE, Another very successful social arranged under the auspices of the Ivaponga Croquet Club took place on Wednesday evening, when an assembly of approximately 150 local and district residents gathered at the Auroa Hall, where a well-supported dance programme provided entertainment from 8 p.m. until the early hours of the following morning. Assisted by local helpers the committee, under the direction of the president (Mrs W. E. Hollard) and secretary (Mrs T. Bennie), made effective arrangements to cater for the enjoyment of the guests, to all of whom the occasion proved replete with pleasure. Boulton’s Orchestra supplied the requisite music, while the floor, which is popularly known as one of the finest in South Taranaki, was the subject of much appreciative comment. The programme was supplemented by various competitive numbers, principal ■interest being centred in the sweepstake waltzing contest, which provided excellent exhibitions of the popular dance, and gave the judge (Mr D. H. Briggs, of Kaponga) considerable difficulty in reaching his decision. The event was conducted in heats, which resulted in Mrs P. Hughes partnered by Mr Hughes, Mrs H. Whalen and Mr P. Harris, Miss A. Mowat and Mr C. Whalen, and Miss J. Mowat and Mr C. Collins being selected td contest the final. Amid enthusiastic applause Mrs and Mr Hughes were eventually declared the winners.

In the other competitions Mrs Towers and Mr Harris secured the trophies aAvarded for the elimination “balloon” dance, Miss Sturgeon and Mr J. Plummer proved the lucky pair in the “card” waltz, and Mrs H. "Whalen and partner occupied the selected position at the conclusion of the “spot” dance. As M’s.C., Messrs W. H. Martin (Auroa) and A. A. Guy (Kaponga) arranged a well-balanced programme, and gave courteous attention to their duties, while for the supper room arrangements thanks are due to numerous attendants under the supervision of Mrs R. D. Dagg. The club wishes to express its appreciation of the generous support given by the Auroa and visiting public, and in thanking those associated in the administration of the function desires to specially mention the M’s.C., the judge of the waltzing competition, and Messrs G. Kirk, H. Buxton, A. Kruse, and R. Roberts, of Auroa.
