SAID TO BE BROKEN. EFFECTIVE FRENCH ACTION SITUATION STILL SERIOUS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Dec. 6. News from Beirut states that French tanks, aeroplanes iand infantry devstroyed the Druses’ defences and captured Hasibeiya. The Druses have evacuated Lebanon, lb is' believed the lebellion is broken.
The Beirut correspondent of the Times says the French re-occupation of Hasbeiya, where the Druses had founded !a provisional Government, is expected to re-act importantly throughout Syria. The correspondent points out that Hasibeiya. is the Druse religious centre, and its re-capture, virtually removes the menace to Grand Lebanon.
The rebels, however, are not yet cowed, and the situation around Damascus anil elsewhere is still disquieting. The general outlook is most unsatisfactory. Shelling from forte is a. nightly occurrence, and on December 4 the rebels boldly attacked the Cadem quarter, the French having to send a strong column, supported by tanks, to drive them off.
