“THE MESSIAH.”
TO-NWRT’S PERFORMANCE
The impression created by the work of the soloists —iMr,s. Wildish, Miss Mina Caldow, Mrs. Dennis and Mr. E. Thomas —at the final rehearsal last night was most favourable and everyone present was more than delighted. They are four most capable artists, and in their hands the wonderful recitatives and solos will be interpreted in excellent style. They are well-known all over the Dominion as good exponents of oratorio.
The choruses went very well, and these will he a feature of the performance, while the orchestra though showing evidence that mpre practice would have been advisable, acquitted itself well.
From the beautiful overture, through the series of glorious recitatives, solos, choruses, and incidental orchestral work, the oratorio is one that appeals to every listener. There is no one that can remain unmoved by the appeal of the story of the Messiah, so well expressed by the genius of Handel.
It is certain that there will be a very large audience to-night at the Opera Houise.
