HAWERA DISTRICT SCHOOL.

SECOND CONCERT. ANOTHER SUCCESS. The, popularity 8f the programme arranged for the concert given by the Hawera District School was such that it drew another crowded house last night, again not a seat being unfilled in the whole of the Opera House. The various items which pr.oved so successful on the first night were repeated and gained even more commendation than before. *The band and orchestral numbers, the dancing and singing, and the tableaux of the flowers and the nations were all thoroughly enjoyed, the finale again being a triumph. It is estimated that the net proceeds will total about £IOO. and this is to bo given half to the .band and orchestra and half to the school committee. The musical side of the school work is most important,, and has received a distinct fillip from the work done in connection with t-lie band and orchestra, and it is hoped there will be a. subsidy available. The committee has many deserving objects to which it can devote all the funds it can get. All connected with the performances are entitled to much credit for the success they have secured. The headmaster and staff put in a great, deal, of time, the assistants especially having been very busy after school hours making tlie various costumes worn by .the children. The amount of work involved may be easily estimated.
