The story of a duel to death between two old men in the northern wilds or the province has reached here. Alexander Ducharne, .a hunter who for years trapped around Lake Chileo, met a prospector, Fred Cyr, who told how he had made a rich gold find. Ducharne warned Cyr not to. carry the news outside, as tliis would drive the trappeis from the field, which would he flooded with miners. A quarrel ensued, and the men separated. Next day Cyr heard a bullet strike a rock alongside of which he was standing. He look cover and a duel began', Ducharne being shot dead and Cyr wounded. The latter surrendered to the police. A gold rush is expected in the spring.
