M. Briand lias departed for Paris. One of. his most treasured possessions is a silver loving cup, the gift of Sir Austen Chamberlain, inscribed: “To niy friend, Aristide Briand, as a soinenir of Locarno.?’ Signor Scialoja, questioned whether British labour threats not to carry him in the trains had deterred Mussolini from coming to London to sign the Locarno Treaty, said: “Signor Mussolini is five Ministers in one. He is a great doctor. His serum destroys the disease without harming the healthy tissues.” Signor Scialoja- would not go so far as to say that his treatment should he adopted in countries other than Italy. —A. and N.Z.
