MUTINY IN GAOL
PRISONERS ATTACK GUARDS. PITCHED BATTLE ENSUES CASUALTIES ON BOTH SIDES. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Dee. 3 10.15 a.in. DELHI, Dec. 2. A Calcutta message reports that a serious mutiny, led by a prisoner who had been sentenced to death for murder, occurred in the gaol at Pyapon. The prisoners overpowered the guards, seized their guns, and engaged the gaol authorities in a pitched battle, only surrendering when their leader was killed, and after the Deputy Commissioner and the military police had surrounded the gaol. Five prisoners and four warders were killed, and twenty prisoners and four warders were injured.—Reuter..
