VISIT TO WANGANUI. Last night, in Wanganui, the Male Clioir .concert was shared by the members of the Mawera Choir, who went down to tret pm the visit paid by Wanganui members to Hawera some months ago. The Chronicle speaks very highly of the work of both choirs, and says that the Hawera Male Choir, though numbering only about half of the local body, proved to be a company of vocal enthusiasts who sang with colour and precision. Whilst their items were less ambitious than those of the Wanganui Choir, they ivere given with an understanding and attention to detail that delighted the audience.. Mr. Clement Howe conducted the Hawera Choir with skill, and always had his forces well in hand.

The assisting vocalists were Miss Mabel Esquilant, Mrs. G. E. Tarrant, Miss M. Allomes, and Mr. S. Kendall, and all performed well. Of Miss Esquilant the Chronicle says that she enhanced her reputation by her beautiful songs last evening With a oice of remarkable range and variety of tone colour, she likewise possesses a true dramatic sense, and her imposing yet charming stage presence adds to The delightful nessl of her items.

At the conclusion the massed choirs sang Adams’ “Comrades in Arms,” under Mr. Howe’s baton, and the body of sound was impressive. Hawera members report having had a most enjoyable time, and they cannot- speak too highly of the welcome given them. At an informal gathering a short toast list was honoured, and vocal items were given by Miss Esquilant, Messrs C. Moss, Kendall, MacEarlane, and the Hawera Quartette. 1

In his speech Mr. Brown, the president, said that the society’s policy was to introduce able artists from other parts and also to encourage local performers of promise.
