OX TUT’S TOENAILS. CARTER’S DIFFICULTIES. LONDON, K'ov. 17. The Cairo correspondent of the Daily Mail reports that an official communique relates Air Howard Carter’s extraordinary difficulties in unwrapping the Tutankhamen mummy. The wrappings were so carbonised and decayed that it was necessary "rst to cover them with a thin coating ol melted wax and then slit them from the mask to the feet. Golden caps cover the mummy’s toenails and finger-nails. The jewelUuy discovered so . far exceeds all anticipations. A number of jewelled golden amulets and various toilet requisites of .vo.nierl’lil workmanship have been removed from the coffin. The most important discovery has been an ebony statuette of the king, which is heavily ornamented with gold. The innermost coffin, which i.s of solid gold, is shaped like a human form and is embossed with intricate designs. Lt is the largest piece of gold work ju the annals of archaeology.
