BOUNDARY DISPUTE
IRISH PROBLEM. DE VALERA TAKES A HAND. BRITISH LEADERS DEN OF NCFjD. BY CABLE—PE.BSS ASSOCIATION— OOPYKIGUT. Received Doc. 1, 10. 25 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 30. De Valera, addressing his constituents at Ennis, urged republicans and Freer Staters to unite in the defence of their common interests, as they did during the war against conscription. He declared: ‘ ‘England cannot continue ruling and cheating both Northenens and Southeners, unless she finds Irishmen to play her game. 1 don’t want a partition, but if a partition is necessary it must not he worse than under the treaty. Mr. Griffiths only accepted the treaty because Mr Lloyd George, Mr. Churchill and Lord Biukenhead promised that Sir James Craig should not coerce those desiring to unite with the Free State. When Mr. Griffiths wais irrevocably committed, these honourable gentlemen tore up their pledges.—-Sydney Sun Cable.
HOPES FOR AMICABLE SETTLEMENT. LONDON, Nov. 30. Tlio Morning Post states that hope is rising in the Irish Free State that the conference which is now taking place between the representatives of the three Governments concerned will solve the boundary crisis amicably. The Government is anxious for peace, partly because the Republicans are using the crisis to regain public support which they have lost during the last two years. Politicians in close touch with Dublin say that if the boundary report is published and thereby becomes operative the knell of Mr W. Cosgrave’s administration will have sounded. On the contrary, if the Free State agrees to the frontier remaining as at present, and pledges itself not to raise the question for a number of years, the Free State must have some concessions from Britain in order to save its face, the concessions being probably of a financial nature connected with Ireland’s share of the national debt. A British Government steamer landed a large quantity of military stores, motor lorries and a Red Cross ambulance at Londonderry.
