In the case of the appeal against the deportation order, Tom \V alsh and Jacob Johnson were again before the High Court to-day. Th e case of AVa'sh was taken first. Counsel tor Av alsh argued that the case had been improperly removed from the jurisdiction of the Full Court to the High Court. The hearing was adjourned until to-morrow. Advice from Melbourne states that a conference of the transport group and the key industry unions decided to refuse to recommend any form of strike against deportation. An Adelaide message states that, referring to the deportation of AVa’sh and Johnson, Mr Condon, president of the Adelaide Trades and Labour Council, said there was going to be no trouble as far a s Adelaide was concerned. Mr Thompson, president of the Wntersiders' Union, said the waterside workers were determined at all costs that Australia should not be dragged into a s tr.ike over the deportations. 'The watersiders wou’d carry the burden no longer. The men were working amicably with the shipowners, Mr Thompson added. They had received a fair deal and would give one in return. He said the waterside workers would maintain law and order at the port of Adelaide. The transport group met at Sydney and adjourned indefinitely without, reaching a. decision regarding [lie deportation cases.
