MEMORIAL SERVICES. (by TELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 27. Synchronising as nearly as practicable with the solemn observances at Westminster Abbey, special memorial services were held this morning in several of the churches, while the Government and municipal and other offices reverently closed for three hours from 10.30 a .in. in accordance with instructions received from Home. A Royal salute of forty minute guns was fired from Mount Cook barracks, commencing at 11 o ’clock. Similarly the hell in the Post; Office clock tower tolled at intervals of one minute for ten minutes after eleven. A request for a cessation of traffic for a period of five minutes from the same hour was partly observed, all trams being stopped. The Mayor issued a rquest this morning for the shops to close, but the advice came too late to be very widely circulated, and only a few retailers closed their premises. All Government and municipal offices, however, anil many places of business were closed from 10.30 until after lunch. Memorial services were held at 11 o’clock at St. Paul’s Cathedral, where State and governmental and other officials attended, and also at St. Peter’s and St. Mark’s. SERVICE AT CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 27. A memorial service for the late Queen was held at the Anglican Cathedral to-day, and the majority of business places and hotels closed from eleven to noon. HAWERA SCHOOLS’ OBSERVANCE. At the Hawera schools this morning special observance in memory of Quccu Alexandra took place. At the Hawera Technical High School all the pupils were assembled after the recess period and the principal delivered an address on the life and character of the late Queen. After the address the pupils were dismissed for the morning. One minute’s silence was observed at Hie Hawera Main School. It was impressive to note the sudden hush which fell over the school giving plae.e to the usual exuberant noise made by the children. The Rt. Rev. Mon signor Power delivered a suitable address to the children of the Hawera Convent School during the morning.
