RAILWAY TIMETABLE.
ALTERATION MUST STAND. POSITION OF HIGH SCHOOL PUPILS. AN ALTERNATIVE PROPOSED. In connection with the altered railway time-table for the mixed trains in Taranaki and the protests lodged by the Hawera Chamber of Commerce and the Technical High School Board, the District Traffic Manager at Wanganui visited Hawera and discussed the matter with the two bodies concerned. It was pointed out that the main difficulty met with was the fact that the children attending the Hawera Technical High School from north were losing a considerable portion of the school time. In reply, the Traffic Manager said it was impossible to alter the time-table, as the afternoon north train already stayed in Hawera for an hour. There was only one possibility, and this was that it might be possible to arrange for the morning train to arrive earlier so that school could he opened earlier. If this were done the school day would commence earlier, and the train pupils would have a better opportunity to receive the full period of instruction.
