FASHION KINGS.
MORE INFLUENCE THAN POPE. A CARDINAL ON DRESS. PARIS, Oct. 30. “Parisiennes have such good taste in the art of dressing that 1 am obliged to let many enter Notre Dame wearing dresses inches shorter in length than I would permit if I stopped and measured them at the doorway,” said Cardinal Dubois, Archbishop of Paris, in commenting on the Pope’s decree that women indecently dresse'de should not be admitted to sacraments.
“Fashion is only the most popular way of expressing art. God is the friend of all real artists. Heaven forbid that their Archbishop should have to tell Farisiennes that they must not follow- the fashions. I have a preference for the old-time dresses, but we are not living in the age of draperies. “Bobbed hair is a sign of the times, not a sin. I am very sorry the masculine modern girl desires to resemble man, thereby losing all her charm.” Farisiennes welcome the Archbishop s declaration as a way round the Vatican’s warning. They point out that most women prefer to follow the decrees of the fashion kings of the Rue de la Paix, rather than those of the F ope. mmummm
