GRAND THEATRE—TO-NIGHT. “A CAFE IN CAIRO.” The mystic land of the Nile is unfolded with rare artistry in “A Cafe in Cairo,” Priscilla Dean’s latest picture, showing at the Grand Theatre this evening. A young American on a secret diplomatic mission . ■ the fascinating houri . . moonlight and the lure of the desert. This is the setting for this intriguing and fascinating story. OPERA HOUSE—TO-MORROW. CARLTON MAX AND “THE AIR MAIL.” A splendid show night programme will be presented at the Opera House, commencing to-morrow (Wednesday) evening, when Fuller’s famous headline act Carlton Max, the famous English ventriloquist, will make his first appearance in Hawera. Carlton Max may be styled 'the prince of the world s ventriloquists, and with his pals “Jerry and Nellie Kelly” will provide a very entertaining 25 minutes act. The Paramount super feature “The Air Mail will provide thrills galore. It features Warner Baxter, Billie Dove, Mary Brian and Douglas Fairbanks, ]unr. The story tells of a crook and his regeneration. 1 T 1 Patrons are assured of a splendid evening’s entertainment, and are advised to book their seats. AUSTRALIAN SILVER BAND. The playing of the Australian Silver Band has recently been likened to thas of a symphony orchestra, interspersed with selections played upon a grand organ by a master musician. Such were the descriptions given by the Wellington press of the opening performance of the New Zealand part or the tour in the Grand Opera House, Wellington, recently. W T hether it be a Liszt Rhapsody, a Chopin Nocturne, a grand selection of Wagnarian melodics, or one of the latest jazz numbers, the fine tone, technique, brilliance of ensemble, and interpretation are qualities that shine forth and brand themselves indelibly in the minds of those who hear this fine combination of Australian musicians. Two performances, have been arranged to take place in the show ground on Thursday night next (second night of Hawera Show) and Friday night, commencing at 8 o’clock each night. In the event of inclement wr.athcr the concerts will be given in the Winter Show buildings. Further particulars appear in our advertising columns.
