NEW COMPANY’S PLANS.

A “HOLLYWOOD” NEAR LONDON

LONDON, Nov. 4. Working in close harmony with the Federation of British Industries, the newly-formed British National F ilins iiopes within 10 weeks to strike the first practical blow iu the defence of the British film trade. If it secures the site near Loudon already chosen, it intends to built a film village on the lines of an improved Hollywood. It- will comprise eight studios for the production, distribution, and popularisation of all-British pictures. Mr George Eaton, a wealthy retired Australian stockbreeder living in England, who is chairman of the company, declares that lie is so disgusted with the American monopoly of the Empire’s cinemas, that he intends to fight to the utmost to see that British sentiment is portrayed on. the Dominion screens, especially to counteract the American influemje on Australia. Mr. J. D. Williams, who is the company’s managing director, claims to have founded the First National picture company of America, and also spent some years in the film business in Australia. He says that British films will be popular in America as well as in the Empire. Plans have been completed and already the company has purchased the American right to the successful British films,'“Neil Gwynne,” and “The Great White Silence.” The company, Mr. Williams says, awaits the purchase of the site to commence “the most gigantic” operations.
