BOWLING
The official opening at Hawera green was a particularly interesting ceremony, and the club was fortunately favoured with excellent weather. This helped naturally in a largo measure towards the success of the gathering. The green w r as filled to its capacity for play, eight rinks being engaged,, and Was in many cases very good and the: results remarkably close. In eight rinks only six points separated the totals. Hawera were about the last ,to open, due to weather first and then elections. The sustaining of keen interest in the game is remarkable in the old players, and noteworthy instances are Mr. Geo. Syme, father of the club; Mr. A. D. Cunnabell; Mr. «T. Herbert, of Kakaramea, and Mr. D. Ginger, who, though unable to get to the green, follows the play w r ith much enthusiasm. The three former are well over eighty, while the last named is close thereto. The list of fixtures for the Banner competition published on Thursday show's that the clubs all over Taranaki are in for a busy time during the next three months. The keenest interest always .taken in the struggles for the Banner.
