SYRIAN SITUATION
TO RESTORE ORDER.
, MORE TROOPS NEEDED. PEACE OVERTURES MADE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION -COPYRIGHT. Received Nov. 14, 10 a.m. PARIS, Nov. 13. General Duport, acting-Eigh Commissioner in Syria pending M. de Jouvenels’ arrival, has informed the Government that the situation between Damascus and Homs, where four large groups of bandits are operating, is still dangerous. He reveals that Druse iieace overtures have been made, but indicates that until normality has been established in the region of Damascus it is unlikely that the negotiations will be carried to a definite conclusion.
The immediate problem was to establish order, which, he points out, at present depends on the availability ol' reinforcements, which are now arriving from Morocco and France. —Times.
