BOYS’ SPORTS. TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL. SUCCESSFUL MEETING. EIGHT RECORDS BROKEN. The annual sports meeting of the-boys of the Hawera Technical High School has always proved popular, and. quite a fair number of parents and friends attended this event yesterday. Pertoiniances were of a high standard, no less than eight records being broken aunng the day. The weather was fine, but there was a stiff westerly breeze. Afternoon tea was served by the school girls, and this was much appreciated by visitors. The officials controlling the sports were as follows: Starter, Mr L. 1Marter; judges, Messrs M I< Purser, .T. W. Harding, C. Dahl and W. '' • Thomas; timekeeper, Air C. xi. oaigent. The position of stewards were filled by the following: Press. Air H. R. Heward; track, Mr A. H. Larkman; result, Air A. W. Tugwell; numbers, V. Walshe. H. Barker, who carried off the junior cup, has now four records to his credit, all being improvements on C. feturrock’s performances of last year. Barker reduced the time of the 100 yards from Msec to 12 4-ssec; the 220 yards from 37 l-ssec to 30 l-ssec; -the 4QO yards from 78sec to 74sec; and added 52- inches to the long jump record. \ . Stratton, between whom and Barkei the competition for the junior cup was extremely close, also broke a record, reducing Sturrock’s time for the 120 yards junior hurdles from 23 1-ssec to 18-^sec. D. Gower, the winner of the senior championship, increased I. Nicholas high jump record from 4ft 7in to 4-it 112-in, which increase of 4J inches made the jump a noteworthy one for a schooiboy. B. Alorrissey, runner-up for the senior championship, took llsec oft the 880 Awards senior championship record, reducing L. Burrows’ 1921 time (2.39 2-5) to 2.28 2-5. The mile walk record was reduced by 39sec bv D. Wills, the time made by D. Tarrant in 1923 (9.24 being reduced to 8.45 2-5. The senior challenge cup, presented by Afr H. A. Brunette, goes to D. Gower,' who received 20 points, over twice as many as the runner-up, R. Alorrissey. The intermediate challenge cup, nresented by Alessrs Hallenstein Bros., was won by C. Sturrock with 22 points. The runner-up received seven points. The junior championship ivas won by H. Barker, who gained 22 points. He was closely pursued by V . -Stratton, who finished with 18 points.
