A NEW MAIL RECORD. (by TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 12. Since the present mail contract commenced on April 1, 1.924, there have been six occasions on which mails from Wellington reached London in 28 flays, but the Secretary for the Post and Telegraph Department announces a new record, inasmuch as mails which left Wellington on October 13, per Makura, via ’Frisco, arrived at London on November 9, twenty-seven days after dispatch. HAWKE’S BAY CROP PROSPECTS. HASTINGS, Nov. 12. Discussing with a reporter the present season’s prospects, Air. Adamson, orchard inspector for Hawke’s Bay, said that although dry weather had prevailed some time the orchards were not yet suffering, and under good cultivation the continuance of dry weather was unlikely to seriously affect the output. Foliage and ■ fruit were particularly bright and crop prospects were excellent. Small areas were touched by last. Saturday’s frost, but the output will not be seriously affected. A large number of younger orchards were coming into productive stage, and there is every prospect of an increase on last year’s crop of tipples. He anticipated that the season ’will be a record for fruit export from the district.
