Hollings, the unsuccessful National candidate in the recent election for Manawatu seat, has served a writ on the returning officer to upset the election, claiming that his was the only nomination in •on the tenth day before fne election. ■ His claim is that the closing date for nominations was 25th October, not 27tH, as set out bj. the Electoral Department. The official recount for the Pahiatua seat was completed last evezzing after the telegraph office closed. E. A. Ransom (N.) 3802 A. McNicol (G.) 3689 Majority for Ransom 113 On the night of the poll Ransom’s majority was given as 54, with over 350 votes to come. Last election—E. A. Razzsom (O.) 3541; A. McNicol (G.), 3482. Majority for Ransom 59. LICENSING ISSUEu WELLINGTON, Nov. 9. With the arrival of . returns from Rotorua, the chief electoral office is now in possession of the fizzal results of the licensing poll. These give the two- other issues a majority of 31,101 over prohibition. In connection with the local option poll, the figures for OhinemurL record another victory for cozitinuanee in restoration of license to that district. That is the position at the present time, but allowazzce will have to be made for the 421 absentee votes yet to he calculated, although these are hardly likely to affect the result. The amended grand totals for the licensing referendum are as follow: Continuance ' 278,837 State Control 53,572 332,409 Prohibition 301,308 Majority against prohibition 31,101 OHINEMURI. Final returns on the local option question are:— Restoration 3931 No-license 2518 Four hundred and twenty-one absent votes to come. . .
