TALE OF A TUB.

“MISS DIOGENES” IN PARIS. The French police recently had to decide the knotty question whether it is permissible to ride in a tub in the heart of Paris. They came to the conclusion that while going down steps was prohibited it was perfectly legal to circulate on the flat. The problem was set the police by a Canadian girl giving the singular name of Miss Ralphao Bill. She had intended to allow herself, encased in a barrel, to be thrown down the steep steps leading from the Sacre Coenr to the streets below, but was stopped by the police, to the o-reat disappointment of a large crowd, just as the lid of the barrel was being nailed down. Nothing daunted, and determined to win the bet she had made that she would accomplish some exploit in the barrel, Miss Bill had it taken by lorry to the Place de la Concorde, where she was again shut inside, and the barrel was then drawn all round the vast square behind a lorry. She was none the worse for her ride, her injuries being limited to a few scratches and bruises.
