♦ ELLERSLIE—FIRST DAY. UNSETTLED WEATHER. (BY' TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION ) AUCKLAND, Nov. 7. The A.R.C. spring meeting was opened at Ellerslie in unsettled weather. There was a heavy hailstorm about 10.30 a.m., but the sun is now (noon) shining. There is a large attendance, and the course is somewhat 1 heavy. Results: Gordon Handicap —Bay Dighton 1, Wyoming 2, Cocoanut 3. Scratched: Adi Vunivola, Maveelish, Royal Mint, Romania's, Vexatious and Nippy. Won by half a length, a similar distance between second and ward. Time, 1.41 2-5. Great Northern Guineas. —King Lu 1, King’s Speech 2, The Thorn 3. Scratched: Aropeta, Oration and Cocoanut. Won by two lengths, third one length back. Time, 1.41. Shorts Handicap.—King Merv 1, Finelli 2, Pelham and Oration (dead heat) 3. Scratched: Royal Blood, Hipo, Quinette, Civility, Day Guard, i Won by a short head, third threequarters of a length away. Time, 1.14 3-5. Mitchelson Cup.—Te Monanui 1, Desert Glow 2, Polonett 3 Won by a length and a half, the third a length further away. Time, 2.38 2-5. ' C.J.C. MEETING—FIRST DAY. THE BANKER WINS THE CUP. WEATHER DULL AND COLD. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 7. The C.J.C. meeting was opened in dull, cold weather, but the track is in good order, and there is a large attendance. Results: — Spring Hurdles— Sir Fanciful 1, En Route 2, Bonecto 3. Scratched: Little River and Gamecock. Won by a head. Time, 3.43. Spring Plate.—Beacon Light 1, Star Ranger 2, Rivalry 3. Scratched: Red Fuchsia, Taboo, Last Dart, All Style, Kilmiss, Corn Money, First Acre, Indian Sage, and Nadarino. Won by a head, Time, 1.40. Limvood Handicap. —First division : Minotus 1, First Acre 2 Serotina 3. Won by half a length, lime, 1.13 2-5.. Second division : Polyphemus 1, Arpent 2, Gay Queen 3. Scratched : Forgery.
