AUROA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) THE ELECTION. Quite a crowd of menfolk gathered at the local store on the evening of election day, and through the courtesy of Mr Roberts, our local storekeeper, the very patient were made aware of the results of the elections as they slowly trickled through. Others, however, grew weary of waiting, and resolved to let results stand over till the morning factory rendezvous. It seems an odd circumstance that one had to wait till nearly midnight before hearing the finals from the Taranaki electorate, although most finals from all over New Zealand were posted before 11.30.

GUY FAWKES CELEBRATIONS. Keen as is the interest taken by our young folk in an election, Guy Fawkes Day is an occasion of still more excitement to them, not because of anything in history, but because the day gives them a chance to indulge in their passion for fireworks. So, though I have not heard of any notable “guys” in the vicinity, bonfires were piled up, and the bang of crackers and bombs testified to an evening’s fun. , SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY. On Sunday next our local Sunday school holds its anniversary services, to which the public, and more particularly the parents of the children, are invited. This is a chance for us to show our appreciation of' the self-denying efforts of the teachers who give up their Sunday afternoon for the benefit of our children. The little folk have for some weeks been practising for the musical part,of the services. In the afternoon the Rev. J. D. Smith will address the congregation, while the evening service will he conducted by the Rev. C. Roberts. BOWLING- AND TENNIS CLUBS. At the moment of writing weather prospects do not appear very propitious for the opening of our bowling and tennis clubs to-morrow.
