FRASER ROAD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) By the time these lines appear in print the election will have lost its interest. But those who listened to Mr 0. J. Ha when on Tuesday night were very interested. The ltotokare audience came en bloc, and so made a good local meeting worth while, . and Mi' Ha when rose to the occasion. The way was first cleared by a short discussion of the Lnbour policy : and as no Labour candidate was in the field the main topic was developed on the differences between the two parties that might have fused hut didn’t. Mr Hawken’s •own words were: “The important thing in Egmont is to see that Mr Coates has enough supporters to put him in a sound position.” Evidently the whole of New Zealand heard and heeded. We were told of the ways in which the Government obtained its revenue and then of tlie ways in which it was spent. Finally local matters connected with Parliament wore dealt with, and Mr Hawken’finished on the note: Choose a strong and stable Government. He convinced us of his hold upon his. subject., What a pity it seems that it is only at elections we are privileged to hear such speeches. As is the case after an excellent speech, there was little questioning, and the close”came with the usual thanks.
