At the half-yearly meeting of the Colonial Sugar Coy., the report showed a ,net profit for the half year of £404,628 as compared with £435,575 tor the previous half year. For the present half year, earnings and investments, subject to the federal income tax, contributed £227,922 and New Zealand and Fiji investments', not Subject to federal income tax, contributed £176,706. A dividend ot ten per cent, and a bonus of two and a-half per cent, absorbed £304,688. An allocation of £IOO,OOO was made to the reserve fund and as £315,690* was brought forward, there was £315,636 to be carried forward. The chairman of the company stated stated that the imposition of a' fortyfour hour week on the company’s factories in Queensland had increased the costs of sugar production of twenty per cent.
