SCHOOL COMMITTEE
The local School Committee met on Monday evening. There were present: Messrs G. Spratt (chairman), J. Currie, C. S- Southcombe, L. Kerr, C. H. Christensen and C. Browning (headmaster). An apology for absence was received from Mr S- Aiken. The headmaster’s report showed a roll of 205. Mr Browning suggested that the Wanganui East school be invited to come to Waverley on November 21. This matter was discussed, it being decided to provide tea for the picnickers. It is proposed to hold inter-school swimming sports and games, and cars will lie provided to take children to and from the Jake swimming baths. The Waverley school, sports are to be held on Wednesday. December 2.
On Mr Spratt’s motion it was unanimously decided to have framed tho photograph of the late lit. Hon. M. E. Massey. Mr Spratt said that he thought this should bo done and the photograph given a prominent place in the school. The late Mr Massey was a great Imperialist, and the children of to-day might well he encouraged to follow his lead.
The gross takings of the concert amounted to £6S 7s 3d, with the expenses approximately £lO. leaving a net profit of £SB 15s. Tn connection with the function, Mr Spratt moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Dallison for hie invaluable help in designing and making the banners for the historical part of the programme. He also wished to thank Mrs Browning, Mr L. Wales and Mr Xicholls for their splendid aid. Mr Southcombe congratulated Mr Browning on the splendid entertainment provided. In reply. Mr Browning thanked the members of the committee, and paid a tribute to the fine spirit of. co-opera-tion existing between teachers, parents and scholars, this being the keynote of success.
It was decided to hold the school prize-giving in the Town Hall at the close of the year, and that Mr Browning be requested to give a few items from bis concert programme. Mr Southcombe moved that Messrs Spratt. Currie and Browning be appointed a sub-committee to deal with urgent matters in connection with the proposed tennis courts. This was carried.
