NURSERYMEN.
TARANAKI COUNCIL. ANNUAL MEETING. The president of the council (Mr F. J. Morshead) was in the chair at the annual meeting of the Taranaki Council of the New Zealand Nurserymen’s Association at Stratford yesterday. Amongst those present was Mr G: A. Green, Dominion organiser. In his opening remarks the chairman stressed the value of co-operation, by which better service could be given to the public as well as to the trade. The question of co-operative advertising would lie considered at a later date. With this in view a committee, consisting of the president, secretary, and Mr Pettigrew, was set up to go into the matter.
General appreciation was expressed of _ the forestry exhibit at the Hawera Winter Show and its value to. farmers and all interested in growing trees, and also of the service rendered by the council’s plantation and forest expert. In connection with the Dominion conference and horticultural week, Mr Green said that tentative dates were fixd as follow: Meeting of executive, January 19, followed bv conference (two davs) and seedsmen’s confei’ence on the Thursday evening. The conference has been fixed to be held in Dundin. _ The horticultural week will he held in conjunction with the conference, the Science Conference and that of the Institute of Horticulture.
The Dominion president wrote in appreciation of the* good work done by the association during its 21 years’ operations, and added that for the future it remained with the members to make an oven greater success of the work than in the past. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The council nominated Messrs J. Waugh and Jas. Allen as Dominion president and North Island vice-presi-dent respectively. The following were elected for Taranaki: President, Mr F. J. Morshead; vice-president, Mr W. Moss; secretary and -treasurer,. Mr G-. H. Mills; auditor, Mr V. C. Davies. On th motion of Mr Davies a most hearty vote of thanks was passed to the secretary for his splendid services during the vear.
The following remit to conference was passed: “That this conference places on record its appreciation of the work of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture during the past year, especially its efforts on behalf of horticultural education and plant nomenclature.”
Votes of thanks to outgoing officersconcluded a good meeting.
