PATEA HARBOUR BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. At the usual meeting of the Patea Harbour Board yesterday there were present Messrs A. T. Christensen (chair). A. H. Hodge, J. R. Corrigan, A. N. Williams, H. C. Verry and E. O. Horner (secretary). It was reported that for the month of September the imports through the port amounted to 225 tons and the exports to 96 tons, valued at £4866. The chairman reported that he would inspect the wharf in company with the railways engineer, and would arrange for defective planks to he replaced.
In connection with the lease of harbour reserve in York street to the Borough Council, it was arranged to meet the Mayor and make the necessary arrangements. It was agreed that the chairman and Mr Hodge complete the 'deed for grant of right to erect telephone wire over the railway station. Further correspondence was received from the Railways Department in connection with conveniences, the last letter refusing'to pay any subsidy or to supply water unless paid for as scheduled by meter. The chairman said he had. some time ago met the railways engineer, who took a favourable view of the question, and had said he would recommend that an amount of £lO he fiaid. Unfortunately the engineer had been moved, and was not here to support the request. Mr. J. It. Corrigan said he would see what he could dp, and it was arranged on his suggestion that all correspondence in the matter and. all information on the subject should be sent to him, and he would send it with a letter from himself to the Minister of Railways at Wellington. It seemed to him a ridiculous matter, and lie hoped that it would he fixed. PILOT’S REPORT. The pilot’s report contained the following information: The channel over the bar is straight, with about 12ft between the walls and 14ft on the bar at high water spring tides, and about 3ffc 6in between the walls and 10ft 6in on the bar at high water neap tides, and about 170 ft wide between the walls. He sounded the bar on October 29, and got sft 6in between the walls and 7ft 6in on the bar, with 2ft 6in on the tide gauge. There had been 19 arrivals and IS departures since last report.
