BOY SCOUTS’ JAMBOREE.
AT DUNEDIN EXHIBITION. GOVERNMENT GR ANT OF £2OOO. The district committee of the Boy Scout movement (Mr. F. W. Horner) has received advice from the Dunedin jamboree secretary that Cabinet has approved a grant up to £2OOO for the transportation of Boy Scouts to the jamboree to be held in Dunedin during January, 1926. This will be good news to the various troops, and it is possible that some of the troops may want to send more boys under these circumstances. Up to the date of closing the entries, September 15, the secretary had received 800 entries, exclusive of Australian and Dunedin scouts. The Dunedin Commissioner interviewed the Union - Steamship Company in Wellington recently regarding fares and passages, and obtained concessions on the fares between Wellington and Lyttelton as follows: Second class return fare for scoutmasters and scouts over 15 years of age at date of travelling, 365; second class return fare for scouts under the age of 15 years on date of travelling, 20s. The second class return holiday excursion railway fare from Hawera to Dunedin is £3 4s lid full rate, and for scouts under 15 years £1 12s 6d. The Cabient grant will enable the jamboree committee to pay the full railway and steamer fares of scouts and scoutmasters attending the jamboree, and in certain cases it will be possible slightly to increase the nominations for Scouts attending the jamboree. North Island scouts will cross on the ferry on the alights of either Friday or Saturday, January 8 and 9 respectively, but "at the request of the steamship company the jamboree executive will decide which, troops will cross each night, and it must be distinctly understood that troops must cross on the night selected for them by the jamboree secretary. For the convenience of troops crossing the Strait on Saturday night, a special train has been aranged to run to Dunedin on January 10, leaving Christchurch at 8.50 a.m., and the railway refreshment rooms en route will be open for the convenience of travelling scouts. All North Island scoutmasters must book passages for themselves and troops early in November, immediately on receipt of advice from the jamboree secretary as to which night they are to cross.
