The self-styled “Commandant General of the Republican Army and Director of Intelligence attached to G.H.Q.,” Michael Cardan was found guilty in Dublin under the new Treasonable Offences Act of participating in the formation and organisation of a body purporting to be a military force which was not established and maintained by law. A detective said he found the accused in a room entered by means of a trapdoor. He also found a. number of documents headed “Headquarters 1.R.A.”
