BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. NEW YORK, Oct. 28. At the convention of surgeons at Philadelphia, Dr. Hugh M. Young, of the John Hopkins Medical College, chairman of the American College. of Surgeons’ Committee, speaking of antiseptics, explained how the blood stream was purified by injections called digermieides. Injections of merehurochrome had been successful in the treatment of pneumonia, erysipelas and even leprosy. The war had been responsible for progress in antiseptic surgery and the discovery of antiseptics to kill germs without destroying tissue by injection into blood or tissue. Figures showed that in 40 years operations had increased from 3 per cent to 70 per cent in all hospital cases.
