PRIME MINISTER’S TOUR, (by TELEGRAPHI—PRESS 1 —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WANGANUI, Oct. '2B. The Prime Minister (Hon. J. G. Coates) had a most enthusiastic reception this afternoon when he addressed a packed Opera House and an overflow gathering. He was cheered loudly on arrival and 1 departure, and his speech was excellently received, being punctuated by applause. MARTON, Oct. 28. The foundation stone of Marton ? s new post office was laid to-day by the Hon. J. G. Coates, who was accorded a splendid hearing by a large gathering. _ Mr. Ooates said the laying of the foundation stone drew attention to the development of this young country. If they were going to get anything done they must have loyalty, and they had that, in the public service of New Zealand. It was a young country, but they must think ahead for the benefit of the. present population and attract people from other parts of the Empire. He stressed the development of hydro-electricity and the good work of the various departments. FEILDTNG, Oct. 28. Mr. Coates addressed a- very large and enthusiastic meeting to-night, and he was splendidly received. His speech covered the lines of previous addresses. Mr. Coates received an almost unanimous vote of thanks.

A MAORI INDEPENDENT. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 28. Mr. Tuiti MacDonald, who is contesting the Southern Maori seat, is doing so as an Independent, and not in the interests of the Reform Party, as telegraphed yesterday. : ME COREIGAN ’S CAMPAIGN. Mr, J. E. Corrigan addressed a. cordial meeting at Westmere 1 on Wednesday night, Mr Cave presiding. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mr Power, seconded by Mr O’Reilly, and carried. At Whakamara last evening, Mr Dobson. presided over a. very large gathering. The candidate spoke on his usual lines, and the settlers were mainly in-; terested 1 in farming matters. No questions were asked, hut, on the motion of Messrs Christie and Potter, the speaker was accorded a hearty vote, of thanks.
