AUROA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) POLITICAL. Mr. W. C.' Green, Nationalist candidate for the Egmont electorate, gave ah address in the Auroa Hall on Tuesday evening, setting forth his views on lines already reported in the Star. The meeting* was well attended, Mr. W. Bradford presiding. Dealing with the Control Board, Mr. Green contended that the board was spending thousands of pounds for which the farmer would receive little or no benefit. Individual companies had actually got better terms for their insurance. Replying, to a question dealing with the financing of rural banks, Mr. Green said his party would act, not merely set up a commission to shelve the matter, if it were returned to the Treasury benches. A hearty vote of thanks, moved by Mr. A. Kruse, and seconded by Mr. J. O ’Dea, was carried by acclamation. A strong committee was formed to further tfie candidate’s interests. BOWLING AND TENNIS CLUBS. Those connected with these two clubs are hard at work getting ready for the opening day, which has been fixed for Saturday, November 7. I should like to remind members of both clubs that, as the work of preparing the courts and green is entirely voluntary, it is up to every, member to try to give one afternoon at. least to help matters along. SCHOOL. The work at the school has been completed, and the grass is coming away nicely on the infants’ playing area. The tennis nptting lias been erected around the court, and a- small area at the rear of the school concrete, a fence erected round the garden, and other minor repair work done. The committee and staff have other improvements in view, such as swings and see-saws for the infants’ playground, provision of playing material for the tennis court, and so on. With this end in view the senior girls under Mrs. Cottrell’s supervision, are hard at work on articles for a fancy fair to be held early in March of next year. Other Auroa organisations please note the date; the school wants your assistance then.

Our basket ball team has played two matches recently, one against Rowan, the other against Kapuni, in both cases winning by a comfortable margin.
