Mr. A. Varney, who for the last 13 years has been associated with the YM.G.A. in New Zealahd, has resigned from the national secretaryship of that movement.

The Hon. D.\ H. Guthrie yesterday received a presentation of an illuminated address and a silver service from! the electors of Oroua in appreciation of his seventeen years’ service as member for the district. There was a large gathering, which was non-political. After spending an interesting time in the further study of his profession at the Glasgow and Edinburgh Infirmaries, Dr. J. McGhie, of Hawera, sailed, from London by the Ormond© on October 17. This steamer is due to reach Sydney on November 26, and Dr. McGhie, after a few weeks in Australia, hopes to bo home in Hawera for Christmas.
