SCOTLAND’S HOUSING PROBLEM

LONDON, Oct. 1. Mr Baldwin (the Prime Minister), speaking at Glasgow, said - that in order to encourage mass production the Government had decided to increase the Wheatley Housing Subsidy from £l6O to £2OO for the first 4000 houses of alternative types in Scotland. He declared that whereas England" was overtaking the housing arrears, the position in Scotland was getting worse. . “People are living and dying in hovels,” he said, “and the Government cannot stand by without making its utmost effort to remedy the position.”
