f CIVIL ENGINEERS CONFER. BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT CAMBRIDGE, Oct. 23. The- annual conference of civil engineers commenced here last night, the attendance being nearly forty, representative of all parts of the province, To-day the visitors are making an inspection of the hydro-electric works at Horahora and Arapuni and will continue their sessions to-night. They wiil probably complete their conference tomorrow.
A CHRISTCHURCH CIVIL ACTION
CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 23 v Judge McGregor this morning made an order that the equitable assignment by the National Hardware and Machinery Company of a debt of £236 to Foster and Telfer was a fraudulent preference, and that Arthur W. White, director of the company, was guilty of misfeasance in causing the assignment to be made. A motion had been made by the liquidators m the Hardware Company. Leave to appeal was granted. FINE REDUCED. WELLINGTON. Octi.23. The fine of £SOO imposed upon Distributors, Ltd., was reduced to £SO in the case of each of the contsituent companies by Mr Justice Sim to-day, upon the application of Mr Skerrett, K.C., and Mr Myers, K.C.
