ANCIENT SKULL

DISCOVERED IN LONDON.

PRE-HISTORIC REMAINS.

SAID TO' BE 15,000 YEARS OLD

UY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT

Received Oct. 23, 10.35 a.m, LONDON, Oct. 22. An ancient skull was unearthed in Leadenhail Street during excavations to a depth of twenty-six feet. Professor Elliott Smith expressed the opinion that it was that of a woman, aged 45 black in colour. He added that she was able to speak, was extremely coarse, and possessed a. snout, the bridge of the nose being absent. She might have been born 15,000 to 20,000 years ago, at the end of the ice age. It was an important discovery. °The skull was slightly smaller than the lowest type of Australian' aboriginal and its thinness indicates that it was nearer to the modern type than the Piltdown and Neanderthal remains. —Aus.-N.Z.
